Library Services

The library is for the use of all students and staff and their families.

Library and research skills are taught on an individual and group basis with flexibly scheduled classes, and as mini skill lessons as desired by the faculty. Instruction during formal class and informal individual situations will assist each student as he/she learns to define pertinent research strategies, obtain information, locate materials efficiently and effectively and overall become information literate.

Early Years and primary classes have one period per week scheduled library time. Class teachers, with the assistance of the librarian if required, will plan and conduct the lessons to enhance the classroom programs.

Formal library and research skills programs will be scheduled for Middle School classes during some of their advisory sessions.

There are 9 computers available for research and e-mail.

An index to the collection (the OPAC) can be accessed via all computers in the school.

Current magazines are available to read in the library. Back issues may be checked out overnight or for a longer period of time depending on the magazine.

There is a photocopier for general use. Copy cards can be purchased at reception.

There is a parent/teacher book swap area. Ask the librarian for details.

The library holds special events and activities (book-swaps, visiting authors, book clubs, book fairs, etc.) throughout the school year.

Library hours

The library is open from 8.30 am until 4 pm Monday to Thursday and until 2:45 on Friday.

Students may use all the library facilities in normal class periods during this time and for periods beyond this time on request when the librarian is available for supervision.  The library is open at recess and lunchtime for secondary students and for 30 minutes for primary students during their lunch break. These times may be extended when a volunteer provides supervision.
