Living in Hanover
Hanover has a population of approximately 500,000, and is known as the greenest city in Germany. Indeed it has many parks, a large wood running right through the city and an attractive lake in the centre. It has all the facilities of a major city, and yet everything is within easy reach. Hanover is famous for its excellent transportation system and it’s also possible to cycle everywhere. The school itself is situated in the centre of the city, in beautiful green surroundings next to the city lake. Most of the teachers live close to the school and rents are still very reasonable in comparison with other cities in Germany.
One of the huge advantages of Hanover is the fact that it really is located at the heart of Europe, with excellent train and plane connections to a wide variety of locations within Europe.
Although Germany is known for its high taxation and bureaucratic regulations, the quality of life here is superb. The health care system is excellent, it is safe, care of the environment is taken seriously, and there are so many different cultural offerings to suit every taste.
General information on life in Germany can be found on the following internet sites:
Our office team sees it as their responsibility to help all teachers deal with work and residency permits, visas, setting up bank accounts, getting phone and internet connections etc. Upon arrival in Hanover you will be cared for and helped to settle in as comfortably as possible.
Professional Development
The quality of a school, in terms of raising the achievement of all students, is determined by the quality of its staff. In helping the school achieve its objectives, the Board and Administration recognize the importance of the professional development of all members of staff, both teaching and non-teaching, and acknowledge its responsibilities to promote such development. It believes that professional development and career enhancement should include:
- Induction (the needs of the new teacher or the experienced teacher in a new post)
- Meeting the training requirements of the IBO in ensuring that all new teachers receive training in their relevant IBO programme(s) and that long- term teachers continue to receive IBO training.
- Refresher courses to update subject knowledge
- Extension (the attainment of further academic qualifications or job- specific study)
- Management Development
We very much look forward to receiving your application to become a member of the ISHR faculty.
